Well.. if you like folk and folkish acoustic pop music, lollies, b’lloonses, cake and a big fat bloke in a red suit being very silly, Polish beer, middle-aged Polish bar-wenches and spending the evening with desperately unfashionable (but very friendly) folk-music tragics then it might be the Best Xmas Party This Year.
Of course I refer to the Merry Muse Folk Club Christmas Party tomorrow (Friday) night (hosted by the Polish Club in Turner) featuring musical (and other) entertainment from ex-Canberrans, Trouble in the Kitchen, and current Canberrans, Caution Horses (and the afore-mentioned fat guy in a red suit), in an all night, all singing, all dancing, beer-soaked, flesh-tingling frenzy.
Last time I was there, there was definitely something funny in the air (or the beer or the honey vodka) as I and several friends, male and female, ended up having our tonsils teased by the tongue of an almost complete stranger (now that’s friendly) interspersed with saucy mixed-gender visits to the men’s toilets, so I’m obviously looking forward to it immensely.
Details:
When: Friday 16th December, 7.30 -11.30 PM
Where: Polish Club, David St, Turner (opp O’connor Shops)
How much: $15/12 concessionsFor further info go to:
If you like harder edged rock and metal, then i can’t really see any alternative other than going to the Sound Underground Party at The ANU on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.
Durham Arms Friday is back on this week, after our unforecasted postponement, although there have been some discussions in the last few days regarding a closedown over Christmas.
Thumper and I are attending our SES Unit’s Christmas function on Saturday (private function unfortunately), however any donations to the association would be welcome. We promise that any donations taken won’t go towards a function, and will go towards the purchase of necessary equipment, something that I gather cannot be promised by our associates.
Irish folk muso Gerry Doyle (from Kilkenny) will be doing a launch for his new cd at King O’Malley’s at 1:00pm-ish on Sunday. Gerry is well known around the Canberra folk scene as a highly talented singer and guitarest playing with the Merry Muse and gigging with many of the local folk regulars. Should be an excellent afternoon.
P3 (formerly Platform 3) in Tuggeranong are having a cabaret night. Starts at 7pm. $20 for dinner and show. $5 discount if you come in formal wear or in Christmas themed attire.
