Hi, as the heading would suggest, I’m looking for a doctor in Canberra who treats multiple chemical senstivites.
Can anyone help?
I’m aware of Jonathan Turtle but hes usually booked out for 6 months or more!

“You could try getting a real illness…”
“RiotACT welcomes constructive, thoughtful and positive comments. Please think before posting.” I guess requiring you to think would be unfair in your case.
“If MCS was a real and life threatening condition, why would one need to look for a doctor who treats it?
I would recommend this to be read; http://fumento.com/mcs/sick.html”
Yes, because everyone knows that when you’re looking for information about medical science you go to a blowhard lawyer who’s a paid industry shill.
“Another thought; if you are looking for someone who treats it, who gave you the diagnosis in the first place?”
If I break my leg, I don’t need a “medical expert” to give me his permission to acknowledge my injury. As for myself, I was “given” my diagnosis by three mainstream medical doctors.
“The rest are just looking for reasons why they feel like everyone else does in the morning.”
Right, because before we got this illness we were superhumans who never felt mornings like regular humans do.
“. . . the philosophy of natural self-healing rather than science based Western medicine . . .”
A lot of people with MCS fall for a lot of useless remedies because western medicine has been coerced into ignoring the disease, a disease which does in fact have a workable theory which is now published in a standard toxicology text and has confirmed biological markers confirming its validity. They often act out in desperation for a cure where there is none.
But before we bestow our halo on western medicine, keep in mind that the British Medical Journal is undertaking a study to determine the effectiveness of commonly performed western medical interventions. Out of the 2500 studied so far, 51% of them have unknown effectiveness.

But I hear that his treatments have twice the active ingredients of standard naturopathic remedies.
Being a naturopath who I assume believes in the powers of woo woo sorry; the philosophy of natural self-healing rather than science based Western medicine, and the use of a wide variety of treatment modalities such as immaterial “vital energy fields”, I thought he would have given less than 1/1000000 diluted. To be sure, of course, he should give you none at all. In fact, when you present at his office, he should sneak out the back and move to another country. Why not mail him a cheque to a post restant address in British Columbia and you will receive a perfect naturopathic remedy via woo, and your body’s vital ability to heal and maintain itself will be perfected holistically.
Joking aside, I’d still like to know how this condition was diagnosed, and by whom.
WMC & PB – That’s some absolutely first rate trolling. Hardly a bite.
I don’t recall saying anything at all about the veracity of anybody’s claims to suffer from any form of medical disorder. It would appear, however, that many of Dr Turtle’s customers feel that others would do best to steer clear of his services, which seem to have about the same efficacy as tarot cards and magic crystals – and psychics.

There are a very small number of people who are allergic to multiple compounds. Very small. The rest are just looking for reasons why they feel like everyone else does in the morning.
This review from one of Dr Turtle’s less-than-satisfied customers in the link above:
“These [Dr Turtle’s] treatments did not work, most of them available cheaper from naturopath”.
But I hear that his treatments have twice the active ingredients of standard naturopathic remedies.
In all seriousness though, I have known people who are particularly sensitive to multiple ‘chemicals’. They weren’t imagining it, and it wasn’t fun.
Ah yes, I’m well aware of how doctors who dare to order tests can be punished by the system for straying outside the norm. We’ve seen it a few times over the years. Even seen a doctor run out of town for correctly diagnosing and treating a condition that all the others had said didn’t exist.
They’re the doctors who get the hard cases – you know, the ones where the other doctors say there’s nothing wrong with you, but they won’t take any bloods to find out, or if they do, they ignore the results and say you’re ok.
Out of interest, and being someone of noble and generous habit and spirit, I looked up “Dr Turtle” on the interweb thingy.
My psychic told me you were going to do that!

There’s some “interesting” reviews here…

Caveat hippy emptor indeed.
BTW, have I told you about my miracle; “Beatitudes of the Four Northerly Provinces of Lancashire, Inuit Feng Shui, organic rhubarb seed, multi-cleansing, holistic, gender neutral, Reki poultice”?
It’s guaranteed Western medicine free.

I saw the title and thought Doctor Who was coming to Canberra
Glad I wasn’t the only one.
“Ooh, nasty rash you’ve got there. *sonic screwdriver* There, all better. Have a jelly baby.”
I have never experienced MCS but I suffer from IBS and I understand how restriciting this type of illness can be including dealing with the sceptics. The condition of IBS may also include chemical sensitivities in many cases – for me it was Preservative 220 (a glass of wine sent me to the loo quick smart). Sorry if that was TMI.
Dr Turtle has a good reputation for delving into the mysteries of the body so I would book in now and put yourself on the waiting list.
Have you tried a naturopath or other alternative practitioner as well. Sometimes they can help.
+1 for Dr Turtle. Book in NOW because he is very popular, but he is worth it. We haven’t found anyone else in Canberra with anything like his expertise.
Mr_Shab – this was once a life threatening illness until doctors got off their high horses and admitted that even sick people with hard-to-diagnose illnesses should be treated. It’s not a joke.
Doc Turtle is worth the wait, not sure how he is now but a few years back he patiently went through every possibility with me. While we never figured out the exact problem, he did patiently look at all the possibilities and I have no regrets.
