The driver of a Ford Mustang crashed his car during a police chase after allegedly speeding at 110 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
Officers were on patrol on Damala Street in Warramanga at around 1 am on Monday morning (17 March) when they allegedly saw a red Mustang being driven erratically, an ACT Policing spokesperson said.
The officers activated their lights and sirens to try to stop the vehicle before the driver allegedly drove away at high speed.
“Officers observed the driver of that vehicle continuing to drive erratically, swerving across lanes and travelling onto the wrong side of the street,” the spokesperson alleged.
He allegedly reached 110 km/h in a 60 km/h zone in Boddington Street, Kambah, before crashing into a median strip.
Officers were able to extract the driver from the car.
The 53-year-old man from Gungahlin was allegedly driving on a cancelled licence.
He was charged with one count of failing to stop a motor vehicle for police and aggravated furious/reckless/dangerous driving.
He was scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday.
