DUI twice in the same night. Once in Isabella Plains, once in Kaleen!

A 36-year-old Fraser man will face court later this month after being caught drink-driving twice last night (Thursday, November 10).

Around 10pm, the man was stopped by a Tuggeranong Patrol conducting random breath testing on Drakeford Drive in Isabella Plains. He returned a positive roadside screening, and was taken to Tuggeranong Police Station where he returned an Alcohol Content (AC) reading of 0.086.

Police informed the man he would be summonsed for this drink-driving offence, and he was released.

Around 11.50pm, a Gungahlin Patrol caught the man speeding at 120km/h along Ellenborough Street in Kaleen, a 60km/h zone. The man undertook a roadside breathing test, which returned a positive result. He was taken to Belconnen Police Station, where he returned an Alcohol Content (AC) reading of 0.052.

The man was taken to the ACT Watch House, where he was charged with speeding and drink-driving. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court on November 22.

Last week (31 October to 7 November), ACT Policing caught 32 drink drivers, 11 of whom had a zero limit restriction on their licence. Police will continue to target drink-driving until the end of the year.

This person not only deserves a serious bout of either some form of community service and or time but also some serious councelling!

Also, disqaulifying their licence for some time wouldn’t go a stray!

I’m sick of these stupid people getting off these serious offences with a slap on the wrist!

Too bad if this person had t-boned an innocent driver reversing out of their drivway in kaleen while doing 120km/hrin that 60 zone!!!

What a JOKE!!!

At the end of the day, the person is innocent until they attend court and plead guilty or get found guilty. They get punished when they go to court.

I don’t know, I just thought letting someone do something twice might provide the opportunity for an additional fine. It does give the impression that it’s not about stopping the behaviour anyway.

People who have not yet been found guilty in court sometimes get locked up while waiting, so why should someone who’s registered an excessive blood alcohol reading continue to have access to the car while still drunk? Sorry, you’ll never convince me that these stories about someone being caught twice in one night make sense.

Considering this is not the first time I’ve read about a drink driver being picked up twice in one night that seems a bit of a legal oversight then? One would almost think it’s more about revenue raising than getting dangerous drivers off the roads.

Yeah sure, ok, blame the Government, blame the Police etc etc Revenue raising wooh!!

How about people need to take responsibilities for their own actions, this guy was over the limit as set by legislations, but he was not drunk enough to not know what he is doing.

Of course people should take responsibility for their own actions, but since some don’t it would be nice if the system worked so that someone who is stopped from doing wrong doesn’t need to stopped again a short time later. If a drunk driver has no car to drive then he can’t repeat the driving while still drunk.

The thing is that there are people out there who don’t take responsibility for their own actions, thus the need for coppers in the first place.
