Enforcement comes to disabled parking

I have lived in Canberra for 37 years this is a first for me, someone possibly being done for parking in a disabled parking space.

The bearded policeman had just asked for the drivers disable parking permit. So it does happen!

Charnwood shops, Maccas and the circus cross the road was packed, cars were driving round in circles looking for non existent parking spaces. There is one disabled spot in Maccas and another two at least over at the shops which most people seem to ignore in peak times.

Ah, the excitement of Charnwood.

For starters, they need to park next to/near the vehicle they are dealing with. Secondly they’re legally allowed to park where ever they want under the Australian Road Rules – as long as it’s reasonable.

Ah, that old chestnut. Coppers, go find a “legal” car space and then go book em !!!! There is absolutely NOWHERE for pedestrians to get past there or on the other side.

I thought the first crossing comment was tongue in cheek, maybe I was wrong ……. lol

I know, they should have parked on the one the other side of the shops, no good leaving there vehicle near by in case of an emergency. I mean, how can you see them run if they park so close to where they are working AND where they can park anyway.

Its private property, the parking laws don’t count here. Probably for another offense.

You’ll probably find they went to speak to him, and then found out that the rego is expired (or something like that)

But yes, i think its a great idea to check disabled parking permits.

Can be enforced if requested by the owners/occupiers of the land.

Another clueless post about private property cops can’t enforce the rules. They can and do. If it’s an area normally open to and accessible by the public the road and parking rules can and normally do apply. Obviously there are exceptions but the smart thing is to assume they all do.
