Lakeside at 5 is a popular monthly after work program of local live jazz at Tuggeranong Arts Centre. Come and relax by Lake Tuggeranong with a glass of wine and live music by some of Canberra’s most treasured artists. In November, the series wraps up for the year with Elise Walsh’s band, Bella Groove.
Bella Groove is a collective comprising a few regular players and rotating local session musicians. The Lakeside lineup will include regular band member and collaborator Matt Lustri on guitar and vocals, co-collaborator Miroslav Bukovsky on trumpet, Luke Glanville on drums, and Eric Ajaye on bass. This entertaining concert will feature original songs that tell a story, songs that move you, and upbeat music that transcends all genres, blending influences and styles.
A consummate performer, originally hailing from Newcastle, Elise Walsh has released two independent albums: one, called City Lights, and the other, a live recording at Smith’s Alternative. She has written several songs over the last few years with her musical collaborator and bandmate, Matt Lustri, a highly sought-after guitarist in Canberra, who has been featured on over 20 albums. Elise is keen to showcase the latest iteration of these tunes, featuring recent collaborator and integral part of the groove operation, Miroslav Bukovsky, one of Australia’s leading jazz trumpeters, composers and educators. Elise is also excited to perform with not only her fellow collaborators, Matt and Miroslav, but also an all-important rhythm section, Eric Ajaye and Luke Granville. Eric Ajaye, a renowned bass player, educator, and presenter on ABC Jazz, also played on Elise’s debut jazz album, City Lights, alongside Miroslav Bukovsky. Luke Glanville, who is well-known around town for his solid playing, says, “he is hanging on the coattails of great artists like Eric Ajaye, Miroslav Bukovsky, Dan Costa, Wayne Kelly, and John Mackey”.
