All Ages 92 Mins | $8 Collection Selection | Friends of the NFSA | 1939| 35mm| AUS | D: Ken G. Hall
ADowntrodden working man George Chedworth (Cecil Kellaway) is thrown into a criminal underworld when he finds a bag of money and must contend with the nouveau-riche pretensions of his complaining wife (Rita Pauncefort).
Shot between the wars, and adapted from a British novel, this is a class-conscious comedy drama about self-worth and second chances.
‘[Cecil Kellaway’s] performance as the little man who learns to assert himself is one of the best in all the Cinesound films, and Ken Hall’s direction is a large part of that success.’ – Paul Byrnes, NFSA
