M | 114 Mins | 1996 | DCP | USA | D: Mike Nichols

A 1990s farce about a Florida gay couple, Armand (Robin Williams) and Albert (Nathan Lane), whose son is engaged to the daughter of a conservative politician. When her parents come for dinner, Albert decides to greet them in full drag.

Mike Nichols’ remake of the 1978 French movie La Cage aux Folles broke boundaries when it was released in ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ America.

‘What is particularly astute about the film’s comedy is the way in which it mixes its farcical hijinks with a satirical intent, taking aim at both homophobia and the crisis of masculinity, as it navigates the infiltration of conservatism into a liberal space.’ – BBC
