Jojo Rabbit (Taika Waititi, 2019)
M | 108 Mins | 2019 | DCP | CZE, US | D: Taika Waititi
Propaganda, reality and childlike curiosity collide in Jojo Rabbit, which takes its place in the well-established cinematic tradition of irreverent depictions of Nazi Germany. Adapting Christine Leunens’ 2008 book Caging Skies, writer/director Taika Waititi’s film follows the 10-year-old Jojo, a Hitler Youth member with Hitler as his imaginary friend, who discovers a Jewish girl is hiding in his attic.
‘…tender, daring, and sharp…It makes buffoons out of the fascists while lamenting how easily their beliefs can corrupt a nation.’ – The Independent
