Moonlight (Barry Jenkins, 2016)

M | 111 Mins | 2016| DCP | US | D: Barry Jenkins

Moonlight follows Chiron from childhood to early adulthood (played by Alex R Hibbert, Ashton Sanders and Trevante Rhodes) as he grapples with his identity amidst violence and poverty. Caught between an abusive mother with a drug addiction and the tough-guy masculinity of Miami’s criminal underbelly, Chiron represses his burgeoning sexuality in order to survive.

This Oscar-winning drama from Barry Jenkins is widely acclaimed for its nuanced exploration of sexuality, class and African American masculinity with standout filmmaking, direction, editing and music.
