Based on the memoir of Danish writer Karen Blixen, written under the pen name Isak Dinesen, the film enters the privileged world of Danish baroness and Kenyan plantation owner Karen von Blixen (Meryl Streep). Featuring stunning cinematography filmed on location in Kenya, Karen finds romance during the upheaval of the First World War with English aristocrat and wildlife hunter Denys Finch Hatton (Robert Redford).

Forty years on from its release, the film’s depiction of colonial Africa and its status as a winner of seven Academy Awards, prompt important questions about the portrayal of Africa in cinema.
“It is a movie with the courage to be about complex, sweeping emotions, and to use the star power of its actors without apology.” – Chicago Sun-Times
