Join CSO Bassoonist, Ben Hoadley as he charts a journey through the fascinating history of the Bassoon – the deepest member of the woodwind family.

Ben is the next feature artist in Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s Saturday Salon series – a charming Saturday afternoon music series that showcases a solo instrument and invites people to stay for afternoon tea and chat with the artists.

Explore the instruments rich and dynamic repertoire through a presentation of works, from the Renaissance and classical periods, alongside a program of present pieces by Canberra composers Larry Sitsky and Sally Whitwell, and several of Hoadley’s own compositions.

Find out why the Bassoon has been beloved as a solo instrument by composers for five centuries and revel in a unique performance on the Bassoon’s predecessor – the dulcian.

Ben is the principal bassoonist with the Canberra Symphony and a well-known performer across Australia – as guest principal with the Sydney Symphony, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Ensemble Offspring, Australia Ensemble among others.

He has appeared at the Canberra International Music Festival, Four Winds Festival, Adelaide and Sydney Festivals and regularly as a soloist on ABC Classic FM.
