A brand-new indoor play space has opened in Kambah – and it’s already a hit with families from across Canberra.

Sprouts Corner, located on Jenke Circuit, opened its doors on Sunday (14 September) and proved so popular that some families who turned up had to come back later in the day.

“There’s not a lot of play centres on the southside, so families have been really happy to have something close by,” said co-owner Holly Singh.

Sprouts Corner can cater for about 50 children at a time, with seating for 27 in the on-site cafe. But she and her husband, Deepak Singh, want it to feel different from the bigger, busier play centres around town.

“We’re not one of the massive centres,” Holly explained.

“We’ve created a small, boutique space that focuses on community, workshops and play all joined into one. We’ve gone for natural tones – soft greens and yellows – to create a calming, nature-inspired feel rather than a sensory overload.”

The downstairs area features a cafe and climbing equipment, while upstairs, a mezzanine level houses “imaginative play” stations, including a supermarket, a princess room, a sensory stone pit, and even a fire truck.

There’s also a giant slide into a ball pit, which Holly says was non-negotiable according to her eight-year-old son.

“He was very keen on the ball pit and the projector screen where kids can throw balls to interact with arcade-style games,” she said.

“Both our kids had lots of ideas and are very happy with how it turned out.”

Holly is already well-known to many Canberra parents through her Jump! Swim School in Fyshwick. Husband and co-owner Deepak has just finished up as a chef at Thoroughbred Park in Lyneham after five years, and before moving to Canberra in 2020, the couple ran multiple cafes in Sydney.

Setting up Sprouts Corner has been a hands-on project since January.

“It was the first time we’ve set something up from scratch,” Holly said.

“We started with an empty warehouse and had to do everything – from plumbing to lighting. It’s been stressful at times, but also a fun learning experience.”

The couple say they also like being part of a growing little hub at Jenke Circuit, with neighbours including a soon-to-open kids’ plaster painting studio, Ruckus HQ, and a new hairdresser and skin cosmetics business.

Sprouts Corner, at 8/46 Jenke Circuit, Kambah, is open seven days a week, from 9:30 am to 5 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 5 pm on weekends. On-site parking is available.
