It was a suicide. Largely, the media does not report suicide in any depth, and sometimes not at all.
The viewing car park area below the dam was being cordoned off for investigative reasons on Friday lunchtime last week. Related perhaps?

I don’t think it would have been a base jump gone wrong or the social media would be all – a – twitter.

I drove past the afternoon the police were peering over and saw flowers there yesterday too. My hubby and I have both googled local news and there is no article relating to the dam. I can’t believe it hasn’t been mentioned anywhere. I’m curious too.
I was riding past one afternoon, probably about 4.30, and there were at least half a dozen cop cars plus rescue. I went over to see what was happening (given how many cops were watching the goings on I assumed it was some sort of training exercise). The rescue people had one of those orange plastic stretcher things, and I was promptly asked to move on. I think the four police at the top of the dam were probably there to keep pedestrian traffic off the bridge, as there were loads more at the bottom of the dam and generally just milling around at the lookout thing where the carpark is.
I was a bit surprised that there was nothing about it on the ACT Policing twitter feed or in any media, given the resources involved. Perhaps someone jumped / fell, or maybe drowned on the lake side and made their way past the dam one way or another (not sure how big the aperture is at the bottom where the water is let out).
Noticed that too.
One afternoon last week there were about four police at the same spot looking over the edge. Not sure what its all about though.
