Two 13-year-old boys and two male youths, aged 16 and 17, were arrested by ACT Policing this morning (Wednesday 30 November) for an armed robbery at a service station in Weston overnight.
Police will allege the four youths, two armed with firearms, entered the Caltex Service Station on Brierly Street in Weston and approached the counter, demanding cash. They stole the till and cigarettes, and were seen leaving in a silver-coloured Toyota Hilux.
The vehicle was found by police a short time later, abandoned in Tepper Crescent in Kambah. Immediate checks on taxi movements by a Woden General Duties patrol revealed a taxi had picked up four passengers from the same area.
The Woden patrol stopped the taxi in Gordon, and identified the four youths from the earlier armed robbery. They were arrested and taken to City Police Station where they are being interviewed by police.
Specialist Response and Security members recovered the two firearms used by the youths in the armed robbery following a search of the area.
The arrest of the four youths was the result of a collaborative ACT Policing response, including members from Woden and Tuggeranong General Duties patrols, Specialist Response and Security, Criminal Investigations and Police Operations.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the armed robbery at the Caltex Service Station to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au . Information can be provided anonymously.
