Franklin apartment fire

ACT Fire & Rescue has extinguished a fire in a unit on Flemington Road, Franklin.

Minimal damage.

Fire contained to room of origin.

Crews currently conducting ventilation operations.

Update to follow.

10:40 AM

Correction- Ground floor unit has sustained significant damage with minimal damage to surrounding units.

Surrounding units have been evacuated as a precaution.

Numerous Emergency Triple Zero (000) calls received from 10.22am.

ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics are also on scene supporting operations with no injuries reported.

Update to follow.

10:56 AM

Fire was contained to the one bedroom unit on the ground floor of the three storey building.

No-one home at time of fire.

ACT Fire & Rescue are continuing with ventilation and air monitoring operations.

Nearby residents have been permitted to return to their homes.

Investigations into the cause are underway.

11:37 AM

Cause of fire deemed to be an electrical fault.

Estimated damage $100,000.

ACT Fire & Rescue crews will depart the scene shortly.
