In my original post i did admit that they dealt with the situation stupidly, maybe they did attempt to leave, maybe they did attempt to call the police, just because its not written in the report doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. I was just trying to say that there is more to this story than is released to the public, as with all cases.

Also, what about all the usual posts where people call for vigilante justice in other cases reported here? Is it different because two young people MAY have ACTUALLY dealt out some vigilante justice (whether it was right or wrong) instead of a Riotact poster with a rifle?

And finally, yes, if you do something like this then you face consequences, fair enough, thats what they’re doing, they didn’t run and hide, they didn’t leave the state, they were arrested and now they will stand trial, the (potential) vigilantes will be prosecuted for what they did, thus it ends with the law, full circle, society doesn’t collapse.

Imperfectly rendered but essentially correct. Our society has developed a system (albeit imperfect) for the mediation of conflicts and the resolution of grievances. I like the many benefits I reap by being a part of society, if i step outside societal norms I am liable to whatever penalties exist.

I would say with reasonable certainty that situation in the OP and your hypothetical example are hardly comparable, but the same basic principles apply

I don’t know for certain, and am only going off what I read in the media.

What I read was that the people accused of the bashing accused the victim of another crime, this crime was investigated by police and the victim was cleared of wrongdoing. The fact that charges haven’t been laid against the victim suggests this story sounds reasonable.

Besides, even if the victim of the bashing had committed a crime, a non-thug would call the police and report the crime, not bash the crap out of them.

But they did report that 19 and 20 year old men have bashed an older guy in his home – Enough reported, what kid of shit is that? Bashing old people is now a great thing for the young to do is it? I don’t have to make assumptions, its pretty slack to bash an old guy, especially 2 on 1 – Dog act really.

Thats why there is the law, they are there to sort it out. Sometimes they don’t get it right every time. Taking the law into your own hands with a bit of vigilante justice in the example given above then it is likely to bite you in the arse.

You then become no better than the person who comitted the original crime, you then become a criminal.

My Mum used to say “Two wrongs dont make a right”, truer words were never spoken.

If in this case, the victim had admitted some crime before your friend and his acomplice bashed him. Then they had ample opportunity to go and tell police and leave the man’s home. But they chose to stay there and take things into their own hands didn’t they?. If that isn’t the case here, but it was an older guy who got a bit pissy, and mothy – then yes your friend and his accomplice are scum. If you don’t like someone, don’t go to their home, if they do something to offend you while your in their home – leave. It’s quite simple, you don’t have to bash people. Ever heard the old saying ” It takes more of a man to walk away from violence, than it does to inflict it”? – Just sayin..
