OT but of interest! Don’t miss the Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo documentary on ABC1 tomorrow evening (Tue 13th March) – makers were interviewed on 666 today and apparently got amazing nesting & chick-rearing footage inside hollow trees …
Within a few hours of reading this thread earlier today, four orfive flew over my block. Its the first time in years that ive seen them. I do see reasonably regularly Corellas, King Parrots, Black Cockatoos and all the other usual local parrots, so its good to see these guys again.
I used to see them quite a lot outside the Primary school I went to, eating the seeds of a Hawthorn bush if im not mistaken.

Nicely done. A rare site.
Sight. Sorry, but potential politicians deserve as much correction as possible.
These guys (the cockatoos, not the politicians) really seem interested in watching people, and not just from fear.
Thanks for the wonderful photo Brian.

Look like an ornamental pistachio tree to me
that makes sense, the leaves weren’t quite right. Bird’s enjoying the fruits by the looks of it.
We too have some young gnale and female gang gangs eating seeds from one of our ornamental maple trees. Little Inlymbo loves talking to them, she told them this week to be good at birdschool and make sure they eat all of their bird seed! The birds seem very willing to stay around and not worried by us at all? I wonder if it is the same gang we are all seeing 🙂
Brian must live right around the corner from me, I have almost exactly the same photo up on my Facebook page (his is better, though). There are three of them that have been working non-stop for the last few days on a tree outside my place.
Looks like a great thing to wear on your shoulder on the way to a pirate convention.
That is a lovely shot, the cloudy weather makes for lovely colour pictures like this.
Is that a peppercorn tree? You don’t see many these days, although there’s a few old ones in Qbn.
