Another fine example of the “look how much money I earn – yet I have no f*cking taste” house design.

Technical aspects aside, it’s a distinctly unattractive, great big lump of a house to go dump on the street, and somewhat interesting that, as the ABC report mentions, ACT Metro certifiers, an otherwise highly-respected bunch, have got themselves caught up in this mess.

I’ve been commuting down that street for the whole construction period, and it was apparent from very early on that the house in question was going to be, well, an outlier on that street. I was wondering how it got past development approval process…

Well, if the man who “is responsible for maintaining the core employment rules for the ACTPS … [and] is authorised to make PSM Standards…” cannot abide by the planning standards, what hope is there?

And if, as pointed out by aidan, he puts in comments just to pissoff the neighbour who raised these concerns in the first place, then Kefford is a small-minded, petty person indeed. I just hope that the Legislative Assembly has a good, hard look at what has really gone on here.

This may not have quite the same titillation value as the Toni Colette property dramas, but by Canberra standards, it comes very close. The process is obviously a joke, and looks like a serious over-reaction to the suffocating Stalinism which otherwise, and hithero, applies.

Mr Huys is taking steps to restore the privacy of his property, including adding a carport to shield his entrance.

When his development application for the carport was opened to public consultation, only his next door neighbour Mr Kefford entered a submission.

Among his comments was an expression of concern about how the planned carport would affect the streetscape.
