Both wrong, unfortunately. Yarramundi Reach (the correct spelling) hasn’t been a gay beat since after the 2003 bushfires when it was renamed The Lyndsay Prior Arboretum and given a huge makeover by the powers that be. I think you mean Black Mountain Penninsula. Telopea Park was of course a historic gay beat dating back to the early days of Canberra, which was caught up in Brendan Smyth’s great purge of late 2000 (done under the guise of “upgrading public toilets”). As a result local gays began an email campaign against Smyth and the Liberal government prior to the 2001 ACT election which helped Stanhope come to power.
