You ever tried nailing someone’s head to a coffee table? There tends to be no small amount of collateral damage to walls, floors and fittings.

YES.
I won’t name names, but we’ve had trouble with more than one.
My advice is to steer clear… in fact any profession that starts with R seems to be like this:
Real Estate
Restaurants
Religion…

Best advice is to have properly written terms of trade which they sign before the work starts… which doesnt help you now, but for future dealings, it will be a life saver.
Some debt collectors offer a pre-collection letter that is quite cheap – its surprising the difference it makes if a debtor is contacted by someone other than you.

or even better a letter of demand from a solicitor acting on your behalf or my personal favourite;
engage a debt collection agency who just don’t stop….you get your money and it costs the agent even more as the agency whacks on their fee on top of the original amount.
