I’ve noticed that Gourmet City in the Canberra Centre is boarded up.
Anyone know if it is being refurbished or replaced? It will be missed if so.
The Canberra Centre needs a decent delicatessen.

I saw an article in the Canberra Times saying it was closing permanently (blamed high rent, high cost of parking, reduced foot traffic, the airport etc).
What, The Canberra Times is closing?
Somehow, I think that would rate an article on RiotACT…

Yeah, the same article that had the owner of Muffin Break opposite announcing their closure for the same reasons.
Frankly, it doesn’t add up. There’s plenty of foot traffic, plenty of businesses that have done well for a long time and continue to. Muffin Break’s problem was they didn’t maintain the shop well and the staff were terrible.

And the Summernats – bogan gourmet is a burger with pineapple.
I read somewhere recently that it’s lease renewal time but the cost of renting in the Canberra Centre is so high that this, and more, have decided to simply shut up shop. These days it’s tough in retail, you’re either getting screwed by the customers for a cheaper price or the landlord for a high price.
Gourmet City has closed for good, was in the news the other week that they would be closing, bit of a shame
