Hey All,
Wondering if anyone can tell me what government agencies have a Childcare onsite.
I have been told DFAT have one – are there any others?

It’s correct that Treasury and Finance share a center, located at Treasury though. I know they had a long waiting list but recently did an expansion so not sure about the current situation.
The biggest single advantage of having the centre ‘on premises’ is that the ATO then allows you to pay the fees out of your pre tax income – and not attract FBT. This is a massive financial saving compared to those who don’t have this facility available to them.
Our department decided that the world’s biggest coffee shop was a greater priority than childcare when speccing the new building….
Don’t bother with Defence. Serving members in uniform get priority. There are no spots left for kids of public servants.
Not to mention it is totally impossible to park at Defence, I would avoid it like the plague.
Hi All,
Thanks for the info – looking at applying for a few jobs and I have just had my first child so I thought it would be an idea to have a look at some that have a Childcare facility. Your info is much appreciated.

Dept of Innovation have one. They’re in Binara St in the city, near the Casino. It was purpose built when the new building went up a few years back.
Though you would have to work there to use it – not sure it’s worth it. Dept of Resources getting one soon
It’s my understanding that Innovation staff get first priority, then staff of other Government agencies second priority etc. So no technically you don’t have to work there but chances of getting a place if you’re not an Innovation employee are probably slim.

Defence have a few, although I think they sold them to private enterprise a few years ago.

Treasury and FInance share an centre, I believe.
Abacus. And last I heard it was very, very, very (i.e. get in the queue) popular.
Deapartment of Innovation and [insert about four other words here] have one directly under the building on City Walk next to where the Manhattan Project is being built across from Glebe Park.
yes, DFAT have a big one and it’s as noisy as hell. The Australian Research Council don’t technically have one, but there’s a childcare centre in the floor of the neighboring building which they use heavily.

Attorney-Generals have one which the folks I know there are very happy with.
