One of the first lessons I was taught as an L-Plater: always presume you are surrounded by idiots.
Wise words.

Issuance? Be vewy, vewy quiet, we’re hunting wabbits.
Anyway, seeing as many cyclists protest they are motorists too, how do we know the motorists in the video aren’t also cyclists? After all, practice makes perfect.

I never rely on the other driver doing the right thing and, as such, have never had an accident. If I see someone about to run a red light, then I slow to accommodate their idiocy. As my mother likes to say, there’s no point being right if all that means is you end up in hospital or dead.
If I were running a public education campaign to reduce traffic accidents, this is the one I would run. Yes, its defensive (not advanced) driving 101, but so many people seem to fail to understand the concept. My wife constantly says ‘he didnt indicate and turned’ or ‘he just changed lanes’ and I think ‘why did that surprise you…again’.
I’m sure some people will argue that placing the onus on a driver to make sure someone else is doing the right thing, rather than on the other driver to do the right thing, will just encourage bad behaviour (‘I’ll go through that red light because the other drivers are taught to not go through until they have checked”). But, firstly, I dont think there are that many people who will do that (other than the ones who already do it) and, secondly, it becomes a game of double bluff and thats not a long term proposition.
But nonetheless I’m sure we will get another speeding and drink driving campaign

If I see a red light runner, I make it my job to give them a scare by driving out in front of them.
After all, if you don’t do that, you’re just enabling & encouraging aren’t you?
Wow, I’m surprised you only managed to get 3 minutes of footage. I got my action cam in April last year, and by the end of the year I had a compilation almost 10 minutes long!

Got to admit, these days I look left and right when i’ve got a green light.
And I don’t trust indicators in use or otherwise on roundabouts, I’ve had too many cars contradict their indicators to trust what they’re telling me.
I’ve never had an accident, I trust no one. So you’ve got your indicator on and turning the corner? Yeah right buddy not falling for it. I’d rather wait the extra 3 – 4 seconds just to be sure. Yeah, I’m probably over cautious but I’d rather have someone honk at me for waiting just that little bit longer than trusting that someone else is going to do the right thing.
I think the closest I’ve come so far is the roundabout on parkes way, two cars going straight through. I was on the inside lane and the other car was on the outside lane but he decided to shortcut it through the roundabout via my lane. Thankfully I suspected he was going to do that and got out of the way. Fool kept going on without a care in the world.
Nice to see lots of people invoking Fyshwick rules in other parts of town.

Been a couple of times I’ve been shocked to see a vehicle scream past across the front of my car.
I’m with Thumper .. I have a quick squiz both ways. Damm near got cleaned up once on the Hindmarsh lights near the hospital.

Unsure which is more scary – that compilation, or the fact that it’s something we see every day and I was all like ‘meh’.
