Gudgenby River Bridge has gone

Angle crossing was 1.3 metres deep yesterday. Nothing shorrt of a Unimog was going to cross it.

Sikkukkut – yep thats the one. Still easier to fix a road then a bridge.
Does anyone else remember a long time ago these rivers used to have a flying fox arrangement across them. I particularly remember one across the Gudgenby down at Naas.
Now we know why they had them LOL.

Sunshine Road, as in the one that turns off to the left after you go past the Namadgi visitors’ centre and up and over the ridge? Nope, took a look at that last night. There are barriers up on the road, but I snuck down for a peek and not only is the causeway deep under water but the last ten metres or so of road have been obliterated. I haven’t looked at Angle Crossing yet but I suspect the same will apply.

Under disaster arrangements, a state/territory can only call for defence assistance once the state/territory has exhausted all it’s resources. Which isn’t the case… so no army for this little bridge.

You can access via Sunshine Road, assuming that bridge is still there, once the water drops.

With the impact this rain and flood has had, wouldnt it be possible to call in army engineers to repair the bridge, the same as was done after the bushfires to some bridges? From memory they had a temporary bridge over the cotter river only a day or two after their assistance was asked for.

I’m now hearing 5-7 days, although there’s a community meeting at the Smiths Road hall this weekend that might have more details. In the meantime the emergency bods are organising helicopter drops of essentials.
