There’s a fresh sense of excitement at the iconic Hellenic Club in Woden, with newly renovated spaces that celebrate Greek culture, family-friendly values and modern comforts in equal measure.

Thoughtful updates broaden the club’s offering while preserving its rich cultural heritage, delivering more comfort, variety and flavour for patrons across the venue.

First on the bill is Éla Café. The perfect spot to curl up for a coffee or sweet treat, this cozy café blends authentic Greek desserts, cakes and savoury snacks with a casual ambience that invites guests to settle in and stay a while.

If you really want to indulge, Hellenic Club CEO Ian Cameron recommends pairing their signature freddo espresso with house-made baklava, galaktoboureko, loukoumades or koulourakia.

“We also have a variety of light lunches on offer, each inspired by the simple, delicious flavours of Greece,” he says.

“Spanakopita, tiropita and other fresh bites are all on the menu. And no matter your usual brew, our barista-made coffees are sure to transport you straight to the streets of Athens.”

Next up is the Hellenic’s newly-opened Kivotos restaurant and wine bar, led by executive chef Georgios (George) Giannoulis.

Inspired by the warmth and spirit of Greece, Kivotos celebrates authentic Mediterranean flavours with a contemporary twist. It’s a little bit fancy, but grounded by good old-fashioned Greek hospitality.

Get ready to be spoiled by top-notch service while you tuck in, surrounded by Greek-inspired decor and glowing pendant lights.

“Savour succulent lamb slow-cooked to perfection, fresh seafood drizzled with olive oil and classic meze platters designed for sharing,” Ian says.

“Pair your meal with a glass of fine wine or a refreshing ouzo for the ultimate cultural experience.”

The Kivotos crew is also hosting a New Year’s Eve Party on 31 December, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for details to come!

Hellenic Club’s Bistro has been a beloved Canberra staple for decades. Now completely transformed, it offers traditional Greek souvla alongside classic meals members know and love.

The Bistro’s fresh new face includes updated interiors for a warm, modern dining atmosphere.

Lush greenery, soft carpets and a bright, blushing colour palette lend themselves to a relaxed dining experience with friends and family. Every corner has been designed with comfort in mind – and the menu is no different.

“We’ve got succulent chargrilled meats and souvla straight from the spit, tender steaks, fresh seafood and hearty pasta dishes,” Ian says.

“Even our kids’ menu features authentic souvla, as well as favourites like bolognese, fresh fish and chips and crispy chicken schnitzels.”

Yet another sweet addition to the club is gelato bar Mavi Gelati, serving premium desserts made from scratch and churned fresh.

The usual vanilla, choc and strawberry suspects are all available, of course, but who wouldn’t want to suss out their fabulous Mediterranean-inspired flavours?

While the Hellenic Club has always had its members covered for entertainment, recent renovations have upped the ante even more.

Patrons can gather for games in the new dedicated Housie room, catch every match from premium seats in the Sports Lounge and enjoy cocktails with flair in the stylish Triton Lounge.

The beloved Woden venue has also introduced an interactive kids’ room – safe, exciting and designed to keep young ones just as entertained as mum and dad.

Last on the renovations list are the club’s versatile function rooms.

Equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology and ultra-flexible layouts, they’re designed to suit intimate gatherings through to grand receptions and everything in between.

Ian finishes with a heartfelt thanks to Hellenic’s loyal fanbase.

“We’re really grateful to all of our members for their patience during the renovation process and we couldn’t be happier with the result,” he says.

“I can’t wait to see Canberrans coming together at Hellenic with loved ones. Everyone is welcome here, so come and enjoy our great food, entertainment and Greek hospitality.”
