Regular RiotACT photo contributor Ben_Dover sent us this collection of gorgeous shots he took at the Lindsay Prior arboretum this morning.
Glorious down there at the moment, it’s a riot of color.
I see what you did there.

Thanks Russ, sage advice. This was my first crack at making such a video, and I’m on a learning curve. My aim is to present my music and images in a way which is mutually complimentary, I’m obviously not there yet.
Advice like yours is most welcome!
Beautiful photos, Ben. The colour change of the leaves seemed to appear quite suddenly this year.
Noticed this morning that the winds over the last week or so have pretty much stripped the trees along Athllon Dr at Pearce bare!

I found it kind of slow, the colours muted and there was something slightly odd happened at 57 seconds (which could have been my computer).
Montages of stills are always tricky to do well – one option is to pan/zoom out to create a bit of movement, but that can often turn out a bit twee. The video appears to have less saturation and contrast than the stills above (could be a colour space thing), and a fairly low ratio of killer to filler shots.
I think posting a couple of decent stills is fine, but at the moment you want to make a 3 minute video, you need a *lot* more good shots, and some variety, and, ideally, some kind of underlying logic to the sequencing that gives the viewer something to follow.
Some feedback on the video (linked to above) from another forum, any from the rioters?
I reckon making the transitions much longer would be good.

needs more pics of trees, no joke, but pics from different forests
Just left with a feeling of ‘I’ve just seen a lot of trees’.
More of the same here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xqMd_IQGMgc

Gorgeous shots. 🙂
I think pinoaks are awful trees though, because of their habit of hanging onto their dead leaves all through winter rather than dropping them as their more respectable deciduous cousins do.
Some English Oaks do that too, the ones in old Watson used to be a bit notorious for it. Today’s wind might cause a bit of leaf-lossage around the town though.
Thanks all for the lovely comments.
I’ll be looking to get more “autumnal” shots in the coming weeks. If this bloody wind doesn’t blow all the leaves away that is.
