The CT is reporting that police knew about planned crime after one of the idiots discussed the plan with an inmate at the Hume Hilton.. I dare say the tape of the phonecall would be good enough evidence.

This in from the police:

“ACT Policing is unable to provide specific details about a matter so as not to prejudice a case before the courts.
When a person is arrested and charged over an incident, we are unable to provide details which will identify
this person or go into specifics about the offence committed as the court may have specific orders in relation to matters
e.g. suppression of victims/alleged offenders’ name.

The details of the incident are, generally, read out in court through the statement of facts.
There are court reporters that sit in court and report the outcomes of such matters.”

Of all the houses they could have chosen and doors they could have smashed in, why do you think they chose your father’s place?? Is he loaded?

No he’s not loaded but he left for work just before they broke in. I think they were waiting in the street for someone to leave their house. I’m guessing the burglar assumed no one was home after that. This was the week before daylight savings ended so it was quite dark for a 6:30 am break in. Opportunistic. Scary to wake up to!

Is it just me or does it seem like burglaries in Canberra are on the rise?

I was robbed at my father’s place in North Lyneham just over a month ago. They smashed the deadlocked door in while I was asleep in bed and stole my bags from the dining table. They were in the house for about 10 seconds (smash and grab). The police couldn’t do a thing and said so.

Since then my partner’s sister’s house has been broken into (she is on the South side).

Is it simply a coincidence that both I and someone I know have been robbed in the last 6 weeks or so?

Insurance, security alarms (back to base) and security screen doors are a must.

PS: I would also like to know the full story on this. Chances are, we won’t be told anymore details.

I think that the ‘Proximity Rule’ will apply – that is that they are close enough in the planning to committing the actual offence that is deemed they did. Also, your right, safety of the officers and the potential victims would need to be taken into account.

Too voilent a potential crime to let it go further I think.

… or it could have been a good opportunity to try out the new Armoured Rescue Vehicle by driving through the lounge room wall and surprising them inside the house! A little bit of overkill is underrated!

Holy crap, what is happening in this poor town? Obviously the local police had some ‘heads up’ about this one going down.
