As the great battle rages for the consumer dollar, Hopscotch in Braddon has raised the stakes with an all-you-can-eat steak offer set to shake up Friday nights.

Hopscotch director Nick Parkinson and general manager Fraser Maher wanted a meal deal offer to coincide with Friday night NRL – one that had substance and would catch some attention.

“We’ve had a great response so far, we only launched it a few days ago and the bookings are coming in fast,” Nick says.

The all-you-can-eat offer is priced at a reasonable $44 per person, less than the price of a single steak at many venues. Once your first order is placed, you have 90 minutes to consume as much steak as you choose, but there is a catch. You have to finish your full plate, including chips, before you can place your next order.

With the chips designed to fill up punters before they can eat all the stock, the Hopscotch team has been wondering just how much steak Canberrans can devour.

“We had this debate; we’ve got some big boys in the kitchen and some other gym goers. They reckon a kilo, but you do have to be able to eat the chips as well, so I dunno,” Nick laughs.

Nick and the team haven’t cheaped out on the cut of steak to bring their costs down. They’ll be roasting whole sirloins to medium rare or adding a little char for those who want their steak well done. And don’t confuse the fancy titles Nick and Fraser hold; these guys are hands on in the business.

Nick will be on the tools in the kitchen ensuring Canberra diners get their steaks and get them fast while Fraser will be behind the bar slinging cocktails.

If steak isn’t your thing, the full menu will also be available. Burgers start at $22, chicken schnitzels are $26, a classic parmi is $28 or there’s a range of smaller sharing plates which includes kung pow cauliflower for $16, beef nachos for $22 and halloumi fritters for $16. Various salads also make an appearance including Moroccan lamb for $26 and a chicken Caesar for $22.

Nick and Fraser are no strangers to putting together an enticing offer to draw a crowd. Hopscotch is well known for stunts including Tokyo Throwdown night, where you can don a sumo suit and knock down your mates while singing karaoke and eating as many gyoza as possible, plus its regular trivia, uni and bottomless pizza nights.

There is no bound to the creativity behind a night at Hopscotch, with rideable, bucking penises making a cameo, and its own spin on Melbourne Cup Day, including dildo races, touted as the vibration that stops the nation. Are we allowed to say that here?
