ACT Policing has arrested a 35-year-old man for numerous property offences after a pursuit through parts of NSW and the ACT overnight (Friday, December 9).
Around 12.50am, an ACT Policing patrol spotted a red Mazda 121 sedan with NSW plates driving along Majura Road in Majura. The car and driver matched descriptions provided from NSW Police after an attempted aggravated robbery at a service station in Sutton.
Police attempted to perform a traffic stop on the car, which failed to stop and a pursuit commenced along the Monaro Highway and through Queanbeyan via Lanyon Drive. Police deployed road spikes at the intersection of Hindmarsh Drive and Canberra Avenue, which deflated the Mazda’s tyres and ended the pursuit.
The pursuit lasted a total of 13 minutes, and reached a maximum speed of 140km/h. Police checks revealed the car was reported stolen from a burglary in Red Hill on Tuesday, and police also found a large kitchen knife on the front passenger seat.
The arrest of the man was the result of a collaborative ACT Policing and NSW Police response, and included members from both North and South District General Duties patrol and Police Operations.
