A married couple were allegedly stalked by a stranger who is accused of trying to access their Canberra home as well as leaving them upsetting notes.
Kristaps Fridemanis, a 39-year-old from Cook, allegedly went to the husband and wife’s home four times between November 2025 and February 2026.
The ACT Magistrates Court heard he first allegedly tried to gain access to their home while claiming to be an arborist.
He is accused of twice leaving notes to the wife at the home, one of which claimed her husband had an inappropriate sexual encounter with someone from his workplace.
He also allegedly went to the husband’s workplace, watched him as he returned to his vehicle, and later left a note on the husband’s car.
Fridemanis appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday (16 February), charged with two counts of stalking, and applied for bail, which prosecutor Mark Wadsworth opposed in part due to the seriousness and length of the alleged offences.
He said the wife hadn’t recognised Fridemanis on the first occasion she allegedly saw him.
Chief Magistrate Lorraine Walker said the allegations were bizarre, inexplicable and highly concerning, while the husband and wife had reported they were experiencing significant fear.
She said the prosecution’s evidence appeared strong, and she was not satisfied that bail conditions could address the concerns about Fridemanis’s release.
The chief magistrate refused bail, remanded him in custody and ordered a brief mental health report.
The matter was adjourned to 5 March. No pleas were entered.
