i like ‘phote’ – like a single unit of image?
Agreed. I’m introducing that word into my personal lexicon.
And hopefully seeing a mate today who has thousands of these. e.g. ‘Off you g[ee]’ = ‘Off you go’.
If he’s not already using ‘phote’, he will be by this evening.

I heard a rumour on the grapevine that due to cuts in funding to the NCA that the Captain Cook Fountain will only operate for 2 hours a day instead of 4 in the near future. Seems a shame to me.
Gerry-Built, the first time I saw this pic on the front page, I let out an audible gasp.
Just a superb pic. Nice work.
As to reducing the hours it operates, I’m absolutely 100% all in favour of it. I love the fact that it operates — it’s as iconic of Canberra as… and here I’ll resist the temptation to reel off a list.
But to have it run fewer hours in the current climate (on several levels) is sensible and responsible.
Hands up who would happily pay a levy on your taxes, rates or by some other means to maintain the current hours of operation? Anyone? Don’t be shy. I think I see one person down the back there, possibly two…
Top photo G-B. I might have to start carrying around the camera for a beaut snap like that. Sure would make a nice addition to the pool room.
Thanks all 🙂
I was just visiting Mrs Built for lunch nearby and saw the Fountain with spray reaching the carillon – started snapping away – then Whammo! – Sun shone through the spray…
Well worth carrying the camera around IMHO!

Yes its a shame, andthis is another one of the NCA’s spite-fuelled decisions to cut their lowest-cost services, which cost next-to-nothing to run, but the loss of them inconveniences people who normally use\enjoy them.
As vengeance for budget cuts, the NCA bureaucracy first cut the volunteer programs, then they’ve cut the fountain running times, and next on the cards will be something else really small but very annoying, like cancelling every wedding scheduled for the shores of LBG between now and the end of Autumn due to their ‘inability to pay the public insurance premium’ or something [1].
[1]: This is just an idea, but I wouldn’t put trying to execute it beyond a bureaucratic mind trying to play games.
I imagine that sacking the bell ringers at the carilon will be next followed by allowing advertisers to paint the lawn on parliament house.
Question to the NCA: How is cutting a fountains running time contributing to the efficiency dividend?
Offtopic @Burkes08: That is not rumour, the NCA confirmed it (as Niftydog points out).

Back ontopic: Neat photo!
