ACT Policing has charged a 24-year-old Chisholm man after the assault of a man on Bunda Street in the early hours of Saturday morning (September 21).
The assault of the man was captured on the ACT Government CCTV network which assisted police apprehending three men at a nearby nightclub.
The three men were conveyed to the ACT Watch House to assist police in the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old Chisholm man has been charged with recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm.
North District Acting Superintendent Jeff Knight said that the quick apprehension of the man can be put down to the CCTV network and the extra officers on the ground due to the implementation of the Regional Targeting Team (RTT).
“The resources ACT Policing are able to deploy, via the RTT assisted in the quick arrest of the alleged offender. Before the implementation of the RTT, a quick arrest such as this would have required drawing on resources from other areas of ACT Policing which may have impacted elsewhere.
“Through CCTV we identify the men and the nightclub they were seen entering. The resources within the RTT allowed us to quickly place a cordon around that club and commence a search for the men which ultimately led to the arrest,” Acting Superintendent Knight said.
The 24-year-old man was granted watch house bail and will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date. The other two men were released from police custody.
“The investigation surrounding the assault is ongoing, and we would strongly encourage people who may have witnessed the assault or may have information relating to the assault to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” Acting Superintendent Knight said.
