The only reason it’s Apple/iOS is because that’s what important people want. Therefore it’s what ASD certs and what they’ll get. It’s a prat of a system to lock-down to a Protected security level and retain fancy pants iOS functionality (which it mostly doesn’t). M$ makes way more sense, but it ain’t a niche (yet).

I don’t particularly care who intercepts and monitors my traffic, but I do object strenuously to the principle that, as far as our governments are concerned, privacy is a right we no longer have. I’m just old fashioned like that.

Scott McNealy, founder of Sun Microsystems, said many years ago “You have zero privacy – get over it”. How right he was.

Remember, kids – don’t use your phone or your computer to transmit anything you wouldn’t want your Granny, your “security” agency, your government, your police, the press, or pretty much anyone else who cares to listen, to hear.

yeah the reason people don’t like apple iOS devices is the reason they are secure and ideal for enterprises. that said some of the enterpise support apps for blackberry and apple do support android. Its just a pain to administer and thats the issue.

I’m not denying they have a majority of market share here, and even more so in developing markets with budget phones that all run Android or Windows.

I’m merely saying:

1. It is harder to get your shit secure when you have a range of new and older OS’s to write for, each with differing quirks and security pitfalls, as well as 24 different choices of phones manufactured to run Android (source is android itself: http://www.android.com/devices/?country=all)
2. Just because China and India and their swelling middle classes can now afford cheap android phones doesn’t mean the affluent Australian public service should rush to adopt the same flawed hardware;
3. Only 16% of Android users are on the latest versions of Android (Source is a pro-android article: https://securityledger.com/2013/07/android-founder-install-base-fragmentation-no-big-deal/); and
4. If they can get Android to a relatively secure level for the Australian PS, then they should absolutely roll it out there. The fact they haven’t yet probably has something to do with points 1 – 3. The more choice of secure hard/soft/flaccid ware the better.

Oh and fart apps are pretty low brow, sure, but at least they don’t spy on you and transmit where you were when you made an hilarious sound effect.
