It's June for DUI and drug driving

ACT Policing is targeting alcohol and drug impaired driving during the month of June as part of its multi-agency road safety strategy.

At different periods during the year, the strategy targets specific issues and behaviours which contribute to death and serious injuries on Canberra’s roads, with alcohol and drug impaired driving among those concerns.

Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations Sergeant Rod Anderson said police will have high-visibility patrols conducting both targeted and random breath testing during the month of June.

“Removing all impaired drivers off ACT roads remains a strong focus for ACT Policing,” Sergeant Anderson said.

“If you think you can avoid police by driving home using back streets, think again – every police vehicle is equipped to be a mobile breath test station, so you can get caught anytime or anywhere.”

Last year ACT Policing conducted 79,935 random roadside breath tests, with 1,368 drivers returning a positive result.

“By removing alcohol and drug impaired drivers from our roads, overall community safety is improved and the potential for serious or fatal accidents is greatly reduced,” Sergeant Anderson said.

“Road safety is everybody’s responsibility. We would like all motorists to plan ahead before getting behind the wheel in order to not become a road statistic.”

If it’s safe to drive with a blood-alcohol concentration of .04, why is it unsafe to ddrive with a .06?
Considering alcohol affects different people in different ways, the arbitrarily-set limit is completely meaningless.

And when a judge gets caught and explains that she thinks the law is an ass if you can’t have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner before driving home, I think that should apply to all of us:

That whole ‘viewing the world in black and white’ thing of yours must be crippling your abillity to function in normal society almost as much as your belief that the Herald Sun is a viable source of truthful information.

There is nothing wrong with enjoying a drink. I’m sure most people look forward to having a relaxing drink on a Friday evening after a hard weeks effort at work.

However, if you chose to drink…..then don’t drive. Simple. Have a Plan B in place, to get you home safely, and help keep our ACT roads and Community safe. It’s not rocket science, it’s pure common sense and wise cognitive thinking.

You’re not engaging in any “cognitive thinking” (haha), you’re just regurgitating propaganda fed to you by the government that’s trying to impose a completely silly arbitrary law.

Probably the only reason you haven’t had a crash in 40 years whilst driving under the influence of alcohol, is because members of the Community have been swerving to dodge you on the roads!! You’re obviously a gambling man? Personally, life is not replaceable as is casino chips.

For starters, lift the limit to .08 or .09, thus reducing the incidence of drink-driving to far lower levels than they currently are.

Then, let’s consider the whole idea of criminalising people on account of *behaviour* instead of on account of them actually causing any damage to person or property.

There aren’t too many other laws that are used to persecute people who haven’t in fact caused anybody any damage or injury. I’m thinking of anti-sodomy laws, for example – completely ridiculous, just like drink-driving laws.

You proudly drink and drive and have never had an accident. Good on you. Most drink drivers can say the same, but you only need to mess up once, don’t you?

BTW, there’s a reason police focus on speed and alcohol, given they are prevalent factors in many serious and fatal crashes. Tailgating, on the other hand, isn’t (not that there is an offence called tailgating anyway). There is an offence of ‘follow too closely to stop safely’ – most easy to prove when there is a prang.

Constructive criticism I welcome. Time wasters that have nothing more than negative input to positive action – I have no time for.

Regardless of “Taken out of Context”….I am professional, as is my Business, and any form of accusation like ” There you have it folks, dial a driver has inadvertently endorsed drug driving as an alternative when taken out of context.” made against me or my business, is considered an act of defamation of character.
