Jindabyne’s Kesha Nevé is one step from the Australian Idol crown after fighting her way into the competition’s Top 3 and into this week’s grand final of the national television singing competition.
The 21-year-old has progressed through 11 weeks of live performances on the 2026 season of the show, which began on the Seven Network in February and concludes with the grand final this week.
Kesha first caught the judges’ attention during the audition rounds with a performance of ‘Die With a Smile’ by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, earning her a golden ticket to the next stage of the competition and setting the tone for a confident run through the early rounds.
From there, she continued to build momentum, delivering a mix of contemporary hits and classic songs that showcased both her versatility and vocal power.
Among the standout performances during the live shows were Keith Urban’s ‘Somebody Like You’, Hozier’s ‘Take Me to Church’, Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’ and Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ – each highlighting different aspects of her style and stage presence.
Kesha has faced tense elimination rounds, at times landing in the bottom group before surviving each week to progress from the Top 12 to the final three.
Throughout the season, judges Amy Shark, Marcia Hines and Kyle Sandilands – who used their judges’ save to keep Kesha in the competition during the Top 10 round – have praised her distinctive husky tone, drawing comparisons to Pink, also highlighting her ability to own the spotlight.
Nicknamed the “singing skier” because of her alpine upbringing and background in competitive skiing, Kesha was already performing regularly around the Snowy Mountains – where music has long been part of her family life – often appearing on stage with her father Nolen, who joined her on Idol last week for a performance of ‘You’re the Voice’.
Support for the singer has ballooned across the Snowy Mountains as the competition has progressed.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council, local schools and businesses have all shared messages encouraging residents to vote, while social media is brimming with posts celebrating each new competition milestone.
Kesha herself has acknowledged the importance of that support, saying messages from home have helped her stay focused during the demanding schedule of rehearsals and live performances.
“My beautiful community has been so amazing,” she said during the competition, “seeing all the messages, posts and comments from everyone back home has been so motivational. It makes me want to keep progressing for everyone in Jindy.”
For the young star, the experience has also offered a glimpse into the realities of the music industry – working with producers, performing for live audiences each week and navigating the pressure of national television.
Regardless of the final result, Kesha has said the opportunity has strengthened her determination to build a long-term career in music, including releasing her own songs and eventually touring.
But first comes the grand final.
That begins Monday tonight (13 April), with the remaining three contestants performing across two live shows before the winner is announced on Tuesday.
The 2026 Australian Idol will receive a $100,000 prize along with a recording package, songwriting opportunities and industry promotion designed to help launch a professional music career.
For Kesha, reaching the final three already marks a major milestone – and one that has placed her Snowy Mountains hometown firmly in the national spotlight.
With the grand final now looming, many in Jindabyne and across the wider region will again be tuning in to see how far their hometown singer can go.
