A 51-year-old woman has died after a head-on-collision earlier today, taking the ACT road toll to 2 for this year. (Monday January 17)
ACT Policing’s Collision, Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT) are investigating the fatal collision that occurred around 7.45am this morning.
Police were called to the Kings Highway, Kowen (between Queanbeyan and Bungendore), following reports of a two vehicle collision. Both drivers were trapped in their cars and had to be freed. The 51-year-old woman died shortly after as a result of the collision.
Kings Highway will be closed in both directions for several hours while police investigate.
Police would like to speak to the driver of a truck with an attached trailer which was on the Kings Highway around the time of the collision. The truck was heading in the Queanbeyan direction and police are keen to speak to the driver who may be able to provide police with additional information.
Any other witnesses who are yet to speak to police are urge to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
