I hope we’ve put the call out to Tamworth to build another Red Bridge for this project.

Surely the lake has plenty of this already in the other basins. Wonder if they’ll ever build something that community might actually want and could enjoy. For example, simply filling it in and building a fountain would be 100 times better

Stage two works of the Eastern Valley Way Inlet project on the foreshore of Lake Ginninderra has begun.

The $4.52 million project will continue the improvements to the landscaping and promenade areas. This includes the replacement of the pedestrian bridge across the inlet, the conversion of the inlet into a wetlands system and the completion of paving adjacent to the new Belconnen Skate Park.

The project will deliver improved water quality, an attractive foreshore, better access and a revitalised lake edge for recreation and events.

It is expected that the new pedestrian bridge will re-open at the end of September 2012.

See? Even older then I thought. It must have been put in as part of the infrastructure before the lake was filled.

I should clarify, nothing in the immediate vicinity. Way off in the distance in one direction was the mall (or one stage of it anyway) and way off in the other was the CCAE (now Canberra Uni). It was a nice walk. Now you mention it, it makes sense that they might have built the bridge before filling the lake. So I got to wondering when was the lake built. According to the TAMS website 1974.

and I don’t think I ever saw a development notice on the bridge itself advising of the closure!
