The Lyneham wetland (dam) near sunset last night was looking quite striking as contruction continues.

Has anyone else looked at the construction site of this lake in Nearmap.com??? Looks like the art students at the local High School have been doing some overtime. I’m not reprinting the image btw.. its a bit offensive lol

Sullivan’s Creek Catchment group that originally proposed all the wetlands and helped the David Street one get constructed didn’t plan them to be sooooo big and expensive. Once the Govt and contractors got hold of them everything has changed. The water from this Lyneham one and the Mitchell/Epic ones is supposedly going to be “farmed” to provided water for sporting grounds and other projects under some scheme ACT Govt made with the Feds.

What, 12 months to build a little dam. Cotter is going faster than this.
More more I take notice of the world, the more skeptical I become.
It actually seems the size of the Three Gorges Dam in China, compared with the other wetlands in the Inner North. Lots of drowned villages in it, and the occasional Buddha.

I think it got pretty close to full this time (and once previously, I believe). The poor old pumps are copping a good work out.

The last time the wetland filled up they had to pump the water out so they could get back to work. I wonder if they’ll have to do it again this time. The elevated walkway looked pretty cool when the water level was down low. It’s going to be quite deep!
Looking at the path on far right, is it actually designed to fill up any further, or is it pretty much at its full level now? (I can’t tell from this pic)
Not sure, I haven’t been past since the latest downpour. But you’re right, it does look quite full.

That is going to provide a nice calm break in between drain-surfing sets on rainy days!
Seriously though, it looks fantastic – soooo much better than a concrete drain. Can’t wait until the birdlife moves in.
