Lifting the till at The Nun

ACT Policing is seeking two women who witnessed a theft of cash from a cash register at Marinetti’s Italian Restaurant in O’Connor.

Around 12.40 pm on Thursday March 8 a man and woman entered the restaurant in Sargood Street and removed a sum of cash from the cash register while staff attended to customers.

The two women alerted the staff to the couple who fled the store and entered a silver sedan and quickly left the area.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged in his late 20s, approximately 175cm (5’9”) tall, with a solid/stocky build, very short, possibly shaved, hair, and wearing a black baseball cap.

The woman is described as Caucasian in appearance, approximately 170cm (5’7”) tall, aged mid to late 20s, with a medium build and blonde hair tied up in a ponytail.

Police would like to speak to the two women who witnessed the incident and alerted the staff. The women are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au

I see that this establishment is now called ‘The 39 steps’. A record for new names over a short time?

Or possibly by an accomplice who simply orders from a different area, after entering the establishment a minute or two before the main party.

Ideally not from the local area, so other folk won’t have a twinge in their memory of seeing them in a group of three before. Arrive by separate means from the snatch group.

Divert attention from themselves by pointing out they saw everything, then provide close but not quite correct details to Plod.

Run this across different patrol areas for a few days, maybe rotating through roles.

All it would take is to have a single member on staff at the counter who is quickly called away by a customer or whatever; a small lapse of concentration, till open, help yourself and noone would be any the wiser.

Slow learners?
