ACT Policing has arrested four juveniles in relation to a burglary that occurred at a Café in Forde yesterday evening (Wednesday, December 18).
Around 11.10pm four young males entered the rear of the café and located the cash float.
The youths proceeded to steal the takings and fled the cafe. Upon fleeing the youths dropped the tin alerting the owner and a staff member who were sitting out the front of the café at the time.
A foot pursuit entailed, the youths were stopped and police called.
They were arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House. They will face court today on charges of aggravated burglary and theft.
This incident is a timely reminder for businesses to be aware of thieves over the holiday period.
“Thieves are normally opportunistic, they see an opportunity and they take it” Gungahlin Station Sergeant Donna Hofmeier said.
“It is important for businesses to ensure that valuables are properly secured and that money is locked away and out of sight.”
“Businesses should ensure all locks are in working order and that security systems are functioning properly” she said.
