Police are investigating a collision between two cars about 7.20am this morning (September, 5) on Limestone Avenue at the intersection with Elder Street in Ainslie.
ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire and Rescue attended the scene. Two females, who were among the three passengers in one of the vehicles, were transported to The Canberra Hospital for medical treatment. One female remains in a serious condition. The driver of the second vehicle did not require medical treatment.
At this stage, it appears at least one passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.
Acting Superintendent Rod Anderson has taken this as a timely reminder for the community of the importance of wearing a seatbelt.
“Seatbelts are a proven safety device and can greatly reduce the chance of being killed or seriously injured in a collision.”
“Even if it’s just a short car trip, not being properly restrained in a vehicle means there’s more risk of being thrown around if something were to go wrong on the road,” Acting Superintendent Anderson said.
ACT Policing’s Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team is investigating the cause of the collision.
Limestone Avenue is closed between Donaldson Street and Elder Street while the collision is being investigated.
