Long lines for the airport open day

There are enough ppl in this world with an interest in aviation and aviation related things that an open day is most enjoyed. If nothing else it gave me an opportunity to see some aircraft which I had only ever seen as photos on wikipedia.

So who care if it was a “Snow \ Byron advertising event”, quite frankly they put on a great day, obviously under catered for, but still a great day.

*If* they got 3,000 people there (which I don’t believe they did), that represents 1% of the ACT population or about .6% of the population of the Australian Capital Region which they claim this event draws from. That hardly consitutes “enough people” to warrant the blatant distractionism that these people employ from the core issues of how they are taking the people of this area for a ride.

Have a look at the “deal” done for this airport as opposed to other airports in teh country and you will see we have been screwed and continue to be screwed.

Ooh look at us and how we contribute to the “little people”. Surely the “little people” can’t be upset now when we fly over their houses or build more ugly buildings?

Ahh let’s go rest now, our good deeds for the year are done.

I agree the long lines were a pain but a free day out is a free day out. I went maybe 2 years ago with the little man and while it was busy the lines weren’t nearly as long.

It was free to attend and free to look inside the belly of the giant winged beasts (except for the Constellation which they charged $10 for a family to look at), so of course it will be overcrowded, any free event such as this is very hard to predict how many people will turn up (and what ratio will be men or women).

Great morning, I enjoyed it (black cat especially) and eye opener/history lesson for the kids too. Hopefully next year there will be more historical aircraft.

Well, to be fair, if its very busy the only options are to have more aircraft (probably not viable, although may be able to have more unusual or airforce craft) or push people through quicker (also not very practical).

Didn’t need to line up to see Matt Hall work his magic, and since that was really all I wandered out there for, I was happy.

Was bemused at some of the lines to get on the current commercial craft though – while I can see the appeal of wandering on to a Herc, checking out a Dash-8 or 737 seemed, well, mundane. Lining up like that for it?

We gave up with the idea of going onto one of the aircraft after realising it was probably going to be an hour and a half wait. We checked out some of the ground support vehicles, and looked at some of the planes from angles a pax doesn’t normally get to see.

Just as we where about to leave we heard about the salvo’s scenic flight that afternoon, so we quickly ran and nabbed the last two seats, where we went on one of the more interesting flights I’ve been on… 🙂
