ACT Policing is reminding Canberra residents to always lock their doors and windows following a spate of burglaries in Macgregor overnight.
Between 1am and 3am today (Wednesday, June 15), nine houses were burgled in various streets in Macgregor, with the offender gaining entrance to some of the houses through insecure rear doors or pet doors. Items stolen from the houses were primarily wallets and handbags.
North District Superintendent Mick Calatzis said this spate of burglaries is a reminder of the importance of securing your home at all times, particularly at night while you are asleep.
“While you may feel secure leaving your door and windows unlocked at night, it is an open invitation for thieves to enter your home and steal your valuables,” Superintendent Calatzis said.
“Burglaries are often a crime of opportunity and it is important that we all take the appropriate precautions to reduce the risk of burglary and to ensure the security and safety of our home and families.”
ACT Policing would also like to remind the community the importance of reporting any burglary to Police Operations on 131 444.
Any witnesses who saw suspicious people, vehicles or behaviour in the Macgregor area between 1am and 3am this morning are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers website on www.act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
