I think its a great idea to have some sort of entertainment. I hate being bored at weddings and sitting there waiting for the food to appear. Photos are an important part of the day and you want to take them before you get food all over yourself. Someone was telling me people often get all dressed up again and take them a week later sometimes.

I’m sorry, I don’t have a real name for him but there is an EXCELLENT Canberra based magician called ‘Majura the Magician’. I’ve seen him many times, at birthday parties and Floriade and he never disappoints. Maybe try googling him!
Just try looking back a few posts:

Nothing like saome arts and crafts at a wedding! 🙂
Oh my god! It just gets worse and worse.
I suppose the guests could get busy and make the gifts…
what a bizarre rort weddings are.
Wedxings freak me out in so many ways. It’s now normal for weeding receptions to include a green room so the couple doesn’t have to talk to anyone. If you didn’t want to see them, it’s your party so why did you invite them? In related questions, why is the party on a stage with the omega relegated to the auditorium?

Take money for the magician and put it on the bar – guests will never notice your not there.
+1, like, etc..
Actually, in my book of wedding etiquette there’d be no such thing as making guests wait around for 2 hours while photos were being taken.
It’s a bit rude IMO.
When Mrs C and I got hitched we went straight from the church to the reception venue (NGA) where we had an open bar for the guests who were able to mingle in the Sculpture Garden. We had piccies taken nearby in around 40 minutes and then we all sat down primed for a good meal.
But I’ve been to weddings where there’s 4 hours in between ceremony and reception. It sucks!!!

Seriously, if you go with a 2 hour magician act people will talk about your wedding for years to come, for all the wrong reasons.
I dunno, if the bar is open then a good magician working the crowd could add some fun.
(not the same thing as making the whole wedding party sit down and watch a magic stage show)

If you can’t find a magician, perhaps consider something like Salsa lessons. I’ve attended a wedding where Salsa lessons were offered during the time between the ceremony and reception. Those who didn’t want to particpate could just sit back and enjoy the music and watch people have a good time.

They could knit a bedspread for the happy couple:

A really good magician could be fun though, for about 20 minutes. Then the guests could saw him in half in his own apparatus.

I think the critical points are to offer comfortable seating, drinks and food.

Haha, although it would be even more memorable if Papa Lazarou made another ‘Dave’ his wife now.
Interestingly, late this very afternoon I was driving behind a guy in a blue Ford Falcon. I reckon he must have been a magician. All of a sudden, he turned into a petrol station.
Adam Dean is a brilliant magician. He’s Sydney based but will travel, see: http://www.adamdean.com.au/
Also Google to see him on Youtube.
Take money for the magician and put it on the bar – guests will never notice your not there.
Try contacting http://www.foolfactory.com.au/ or http://www.highwire.com.au they may have a magician on the books or know of one.
We’ve used The Great Zamboni for a kid’s party and he was great, it could be worth giving him a call to see if he would be happy altering his act. http://www.zamboni.com.au/Birthday/
I would also suggest giving the Fool Factory a call. I saw the Milo the Clown show at the Kingston Markets and he had a large crowd of adults and kids entertained. Looking at their website, they have a lot of different acts so again may be able to sort you out with what you are after. http://www.foolfactory.com.au/MENU/HOME.html http://www.youtube.com/user/FoolFactory?feature=watch
Try Tricky Nicky. His alter ego is Milo The Clown. I have a feeling he’s connected to The Fool Factory.
It wouldn’t surprise me if David Copperfield is doing weddings these days.
On what planet would a magician even perform for 2 hours….. And the answer is not ours!
