Man found dead after fire destroys Batemans Bay home

Police are investigating after a man was found dead following a house fire in the Eurobodalla.

A NSW Police spokesperson said that at about 5:20 am (Thursday, 19 June), emergency services were called to Beach Road, Denhams Beach, just south of Batemans Bay, following reports of a house fire.

Officers attached to the South Coast Police District arrived to find a home “well alight”.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze, though the home was destroyed.

Following a search of the ruins, emergency services located the body of a man.

According to police, he has not been formally identified but is believed to be in his 50s.

Police have established a crime scene, and detectives have started inquiries into the cause of the fire.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
