Police removed an intoxicated man from Canberra Airport before he allegedly kicked an officer in the face.

Officers arrived at Canberra Airport around 2 pm on Tuesday (17 June) after hearing a man had been acting erratically in the terminal.

They spoke to the 25-year-old man and determined he was intoxicated.

“When no care could be arranged for the man, he was taken into custody for his own protection,” an ACT Policing spokesperson said.

But it is alleged he became violent and aggressive at the ACT Watch House then kicked an officer in the face and chest.

The man was charged with assaulting a frontline community service provider and property damage.

He faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday (18 June) where he was remanded in custody.

He will return to court at a future date.
