The Herald Sun has the sad news that 90’s popette Martika has had to cancel her Canberra show.
As the cancellation was caused by poor ticket sales I don’t think anyone’s going to be weeping too hard.

“Come, and get some
In Martika’s Kitchen…”
She was one of Prince’s many girlfriends during her brief moment of fame, also.

In this case not nearly enough.
I roughly know another song by her from that time but couldn’t confidently name the title without a web search. And after that, I couldn’t name another song by her. It’s not too difficult to imagine her ticket sales were poor. Surely a little market research beforehand would have indicated it was going to be a flop.

i would have gone if it was somewhere more central. i trekked to tuggers for belinda carlisle but she’s in a whole other league than martika.
A bit of ticker fade there. This month I’m “trekking”* to Melbourne to see my fave perfomer and then seeing him again three days later at Canberra Theatre Centre. Guess it all depends on your perspective.
* And in my van, it’s not so much a trek as a rollercoaster ride crossed with a bouncy castle. No, not like that.
I had a mate who back in 1990 made a bet that he would ‘bag’ martika by the end of the century.
He didn’t and he still hasn’t paid up
I’m saving my money for Corina’s tour. I hear the local support act will be Colette!

I don’t understand why she had a problem with ticket sales – the popularity of X factor and Pop Idol demonstrates that there is a huge audience for bland manufactured pop music.
Martika who? she posted online “My feelings are hurt, I am so angry, I can’t stop crying because I wanted to perform for my Australian and New Zealand fans and now this is cancelled,”
Hardly surprising given she hasn’t had a big hit since 1991.
