I think that you should forget about ideological “public vs private” debates and send your son to the school where you think he will:
– learn the most; and
– be happiest.

If that’s a public school, that’s good. If it’s private, that’s okay, too.

I would recommend not just going to Melba’s open night, but the open nights of other public schools on the north side. Meet the teachers, see what programmes are on offer and see which school feels right for your child and your family.

depend on his interests, if he like’s sport get him to apply for tap at the end of year 7.
if he likes debating we have a debating team.
if he likes drama we have a really good drama and dance studios and we have school musicals

Yes we will go to the information session that the school will hold next year
Would love some more info on the fast pace program.
My son is in an extended learning class at the moment. He is not super smart but learns very quickly.
Does he have to sit any test or is there some specific course he should look at doing
As you can see he is our first to go to high school and just want to present him with lots of options for his future but we want him to enjoy school.
Guess that is what all parents want!

Jess Jnr attends Melba Copland and although I was a little wary (having heard the stories of past issues) I have to say I have been relatively impressed. Now in year 9, the school has offered some great opportunities and experiences. That said – some scumbags also go there…but that seems to be a problem in most schools.

Try to get your child into the fast pace program – this gets them ino classess with kids more focussed on learning.

Good staff, good leadership. Has been a nice school to teach at. Staff furnish the students with plenty of great opportunities to participate in some great programs, both within the curriculum (ie F1 in Schools, robotics challenge) and extra-curriculum (esp. sporting, Tournament of the Minds etc), should your child be inclined. it would be worth a good look at the (all new) website… Or you could contact the Principal, Michael Battenally, or Deputy, Mary Arnold on 62056711.

Keep an eye out for the Open Night mid-2012, or you could arrange a time to check out the school.
