ACT Policing has praised the behaviour of Melbourne Cup revellers at Thoroughbred Park and around Canberra with the majority of people acting responsibly.
It is estimated that over 5,800 people attended the event with no arrests and only three groups ejected from the venue.
Police undertook a highly-visible presence both at the event and around the venue, and conducted random and targeted roadside breath testing throughout the day. Over 1100 breath tests were conducted with one driver returning a positive result.
Police responded to a number of disturbances around Canberra overnight however, no arrests were made.
Four people were taken into protective custody for intoxication and two men were caught drink driving, one about 9.15pm in Scullin and another man about 10.30pm in Bonython.
Overall, at this event and those which followed, ACT Policing was generally pleased with the responsible behaviour of the Canberra community.
